About Port Psychology

Ben French at Port Psychology located in Port Macquarie NSW has extensive experience in acute mental health settings. This includes working in the community, psychiatric units and running a therapeutic day program for teenagers whose level of anxiety, depression or self-harm made it untenable for them to attend school. We provide counselling services for teens, adolescents and children for a wide range of mental health issues including: depression, self harm, suicidal thoughts and anxiety. Working with children requires a unique skill set and differs greatly from working with adults. Counselling sessions with children may involve a combination of play therapy, sand tray work and a modified version of talking therapies. Play is the developmentally appropriate way to engage young children. It allows children to express thoughts and emotions in a safe way, and gives us valuable insights into the childs world. Therapy or counselling for children should be engaging and interactive.
